The number on the tile is not a hairline. It is a graft count with the name of the person holding the punch still missing.
People compare Seoul to Istanbul on that number and book the cheaper city. The cheaper city may be the right one. It is not the right one because a chat said 3,000 grafts. Grafts are holes and hairs. A hairline is a design, a donor supply, and a year you have to wait through, including the weeks when the new hair falls out and looks worse.
If you remember one test, remember this. Ask who places the grafts, not which country is famous for it. A surgeon who will not say "I place them" has not given you a price. They have given you a team you have not met.
What the quote is counting
FUE is the usual word on a Seoul sheet. Follicular unit extraction means punches take units from the back or sides and put them where hair has thinned. FUT, the strip method, is less common in tourist chats and leaves a line scar. DHI is a placement tool, not a new biology. Non-shaven FUE costs more because it is slower, not because the follicle is different.
The count is the part that lies politely. A 2,000-graft hairline and a 2,000-graft crown are different days. A graft can be one hair or three. Clinics that sell a package of grafts without a donor exam are selling a ceiling, not a plan. If the donor is thin, a bigger number is not a favor.

The price band is wide on purpose
Clinic guides in 2026 do not agree, and that disagreement is the point. Some Seoul planning pages put FUE near 1.25 to 2.50 US dollars a graft at a standard clinic and higher for a named surgeon. Others put the same country at 3 to 5 dollars a graft, with a 2,500-graft day around 7,500 to 12,500 dollars. A third clinic page starts a 2,000-graft FUE near 4,000 to 5,500 dollars. Translated, a common planning band is roughly 4 million to 15 million won, and premium days go past that. These are clinic-guide ranges, not a Peep quote.
Turkey is often cheaper per graft on the same spreadsheets. The US is often several times higher. The Korean number still is not the trip. Flights, a week of recovery lodging, and a second visit if you want the surgeon to see growth are part of the bill. A per-graft tile that excludes the design fee, PRP, medication, or a language coordinator is the cheap mistake.
One 2026 change is easy to miss. The special VAT refund on cosmetic procedures for foreign patients ended for treatment from 1 January 2026. Hair work sits in a dispute: some desks still talk about a refund, and medically necessary treatment can be taxed differently from cosmetic care. Ask, in writing, whether your quote includes VAT and whether anyone is promising a refund. Do not subtract 10 percent until they say the rule that still applies to this operation.
The month that makes people call it a scam
Transplanted hairs often shed in the first weeks. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery describes telogen effluvium as a shed that is usually self-limited, not proof the follicle died. Shock loss of nearby native hair can show up in the same window and often recovers over the following months. Judging a hairline at week three is how a fair operation gets a bad review.
Growth is a year, not a holiday. Many patient guides talk about visible change from month four to six, and a result you can judge closer to month twelve. A ten-day Seoul stay can cover the operation and the early wash. It cannot cover the result. If you need to look denser for a wedding in eight weeks, this is the wrong month to start.
Who should not buy the package
A donor that cannot spare the grafts. A hairline designed on a 22-year-old that will look drawn-on at 45. Active shedding you have not had examined. A chat that diagnoses you from one overhead photo and takes a deposit the same hour.
Medication is the unglamorous half. Finasteride and minoxidil are not included just because the surgery was. Some people cannot or will not take them. That choice changes what a transplant can hold. Ask before you fly.
The message that books the right day
Send photos in hard light, hairline and donor, dry, no fibers. Ask for a graft range, not a dream density. Four lines before money moves. Who designs. Who extracts. Who places. What the won figure includes if you need a second pass later. A reply that only sends a package price has not answered.
Quick FAQ
How much does a hair transplant cost in Korea? Clinic guides in 2026 disagree. A planning band often lands around 4 million to 15 million won for a typical FUE day, with per-graft figures quoted from about 1.25 to 5 US dollars depending on the page and the surgeon. This is not a Peep quote. Compare graft range, who places them, and what is included.
Why do the price pages not match? Because they are clinic guides, not one national fee. Shaven or unshaven, beard donor, a named surgeon versus a team, and whether medication is inside the day all move the number. Treat any single blog table as a ceiling to ask about, not a bill.
Is Korea cheaper than Turkey? Often no, on per-graft tiles. Turkey is frequently the lower cash price. Korea is often lower than the US. Cheap is not the same as a surgeon in the room for the whole placement. Ask that question in both countries.
Is FUE better than FUT? FUE avoids a strip scar and is what most Seoul tourist quotes mean. FUT can still be a reasonable choice in a tight donor, with a line scar as the trade. DHI is a way of placing grafts. It is not a density result by itself.
How many grafts do I need? Nobody honest answers that from a chat photo alone. A receding hairline and a bald crown are different budgets. Donor density caps the number. A clinic that offers 4,000 grafts before examining the donor is selling a package.
What is shock loss? A shed of transplanted hairs, and sometimes nearby native hairs, in the weeks after surgery. Shedding the shaft is not the same as losing the follicle. ISHRS material on telogen effluvium describes this kind of shed as usually self-limited. It is still the month patients panic.
When can I judge it? Not at the airport, and not at week six. Many people start to see growth around month four to six, and judge density closer to a year. If your trip is the only time you will look in a mirror with the clinic nearby, you will be looking too early.
How long should I stay in Seoul? Often about seven to ten days for the operation, the first washes, and a check before flying. Some clinics clear a flight sooner. Swelling, grafts you must not rub, and a long-haul cabin are the real limits. The cosmetic result will still be unfinished when you land.
Can I wear a hat on the plane? Ask the clinic that did the work. A loose hat is a common request after the first days. A tight cap that rubs grafts is not. Do not take a forum rule over the written aftercare card.
Does it hurt? The operation is under local anesthetic. The donor area is sore after, more than people expect from the ads. Pain is not a sign the grafts failed. Worsening pain, fever, or pus is a reason to contact the clinic the same day.
Will I have a scar? FUE leaves dot marks that are usually hidden by hair, and can show if you shave the donor very short. FUT leaves a line. No method is scar-free. Ask to see donor photos of patients with your hair type, not only the hairline.
Who should skip it? People with unstable shedding, a donor that cannot supply the plan, a deadline inside three months, and anyone who has not had a medical reason for the loss considered. A transplant does not treat every cause of thinning.
Do I still need medication? Often yes, if the goal is to keep native hair behind the new hairline. Surgery does not freeze future loss. If you will not take finasteride or a similar plan, say so before the design is drawn.
What is a bait graft price? A very low per-graft number that excludes the surgeon, unshaven technique, or a second-day fee, then rises after photos. Get the range, the name, and the inclusions in won before any deposit.
Can they use beard or body hair? Sometimes, as a supplement, not as a full substitute for scalp donor. The texture can differ. It belongs in the plan, not as a surprise add-on on the day.
Is a non-shaven transplant worth the extra? Only if hiding the donor for work matters in the first weeks. It is slower and usually costs more. The follicle is not a different product.
What if I hate the hairline? Revision is another operation, another donor spend, and not a quick fix. That is why the design should be drawn on your head, in a mirror, before grafts are placed. A chat mockup is not that drawing.
Do I get VAT back in 2026? Do not assume it. The special cosmetic VAT refund for foreign patients ended for treatment from 1 January 2026. Whether a hair transplant is billed as cosmetic or as treatment is a desk question. Ask for the VAT line in writing. An old blog that says take 10 percent off is out of date.
How do I check the clinic? Ask for the operating doctor's name and license, who places grafts, and how complications are reached after you fly. A directory page is not a medical review. Peep does not rank surgeons in this guide.
What photos should I send? Dry hair, hard light, hairline, top, crown, and donor with hair lifted. No fibers, no wet look, no hat shadow. One flattering photo is how graft counts get invented.
Medical note
This article is for general education and is not medical advice, a diagnosis, or a promise of outcome. Prices are clinic-guide ranges, not a Peep quote. Surgery and medicines are named to explain categories, not to endorse a clinic. Hair loss has medical causes a transplant does not fix. Speak to a qualified clinician before surgery or medication.
