Fat Dissolving Injections in Korea Are Not a Facelift

The cheap mistake is not a high vial price. It is paying a facelift week for a shot that only argues with fat.

Seoul menus call it contour injection, face slimming, V-line injection, or fat dissolving. Those names do not share a drug. One visit is deoxycholic acid, the same family as Kybella and Belkyra. Another is a phosphatidylcholine mix. Another is a brand the chat cannot spell, sold by the cc. The photo that made you book does not say which one is in the syringe.

If you remember one test, remember the pinch. If a soft pad under the chin lifts between two fingers, fat is in the conversation. If the neck looks full only when you drop the jaw, or the skin folds when you look down, a dissolving shot is the wrong tool. Muscle and loose skin do not read the label.

The name on the menu is not the drug

You are not booking a jawline. You are booking a liquid that is supposed to injure fat cells so the body clears them. That is a narrow job. It does not move bone. It does not stitch a muscle. It does not tighten a fallen cheek the way a lift does. When a coordinator says lifting, they are describing a wish, not the vial.

Deoxycholic acid is the product with a real trial history for fat under the chin. Korean clinics also sell PPC mixes and house blends by volume. A third group, including some imported "lemon" brands, sits in a weaker evidence lane, and regulators in more than one country have warned about them. Asking for the cheapest cc and asking for the studied drug are different requests. Get the ingredient in writing before the deposit.

Depth and place matter as much as the name. A double chin, a buccal pad, a small pocket at the jaw, and a belt of abdomen fat are four appointments. The face uses less volume and swells in a place you cannot hide. The body uses more vials and still will not replace a weight change.

Match the fullness, or pay for the wrong week

The appointment people fly for is the chin. A pad of fat can sit there even on a slim face. A shot aimed at that pad can shrink it over weeks, if fat is the reason it looks full. Bone will not care. A wide jaw from the masseter is a toxin job, and a different article. A wide jaw from the mandible is surgery. This is why the pinch test comes before the package.

The neck is the review that ruins clinics. Fullness under the chin is sometimes fat, sometimes skin, sometimes the platysma, the sheet of muscle you use to grimace. A dissolving shot does not shorten that muscle. People who needed a neck procedure, and bought cc instead, call a fair injection a scam because the outline did not change. Look down in a mirror before you pay. If the problem is a fold of skin, say so.

Body areas are the same bet at a larger scale. Arms, flanks, a small lower belly. The shot is for a pocket, not for a size. If the goal is a dress size, you have brought a needle to a job that belongs to food, time, or liposuction. Liposuction is a different week, a different risk list, and a different quote.

A consult, not a result. The vial name belongs on the paper.

The price is where the second mistake happens

Seoul sells this by cc, by vial, or by area. That feels easier than a US invoice, which is why it works as a trap. The number moves with the drug, the volume, and whether a coordinator fee sits inside the tile. Clinic guides in 2026 cluster around these ranges. They are not a Peep quote.

  • Face, one session: often about 150,000–400,000 won. Some Gangnam menus start near 200,000 won for a small face volume and climb past 350,000 won as the cc go up.
  • Double chin with a deoxycholic-acid style shot: often about 200,000–500,000 won a session, because swelling and dose are part of the product, not an add-on.
  • Body, one session: commonly 250,000–800,000 won, and higher once the area needs several vials.
  • A course: usually two to four sessions, sometimes more. The trip total is the course, not the first tile.

A US Kybella series for the chin is often several times the Korean session price. The Korean number is still not the trip. A flight can spend the gap before you sit down. One shot is a weak reason to fly. It fits as an add-on if you are already here and can wait out the swell at home.

One 2026 change is easy to miss. Many clinic guides say the 10% VAT refund on cosmetic procedures ended on 1 January 2026. Other pages still tell you to claim it at the airport. Treat that clash as unsettled advertising, not as a discount. Ask whether the won figure is the figure you pay. Do not subtract 10% in your head.

Get the ingredient, the cc, and the session count in writing before any deposit. A very small advertised number is often the price of one thin syringe.

Why a fair shot gets called a failure

You are waiting for the body to clear injured fat, not for a crease to fade overnight. Swelling is the treatment, especially with deoxycholic acid. Clinic notes often warn that the chin can look worse for one to three weeks. Judging it in a hotel mirror on day two is how a working injection becomes a complaint. Bruising and numbness can linger. A hard lump can show up and usually softens. It is not a promise that it will.

Sessions are spaced weeks apart. A four-day trip can finish one sitting. It cannot finish a course, and it cannot show you the outline. If you need the photo for an event this month, this is the wrong booking.

Skin can look looser after fat leaves, if the skin was only held out by the pad. That is not a defect in the city. It is the limit of the tool. A clinic that says the shot will also lift the neck is selling a second procedure in advance.

What to ask before the deposit

Ask what is in the syringe, in the generic name, not the menu nickname. Ask how many cc, how many sessions, and what happens if the pinch test fails. Ask who injects. Ask what they will not treat: loose skin, platysma bands, a jaw that is bone. Ask the won price with VAT included, and whether a foreigner coordinator fee sits outside it.

Skip it if you are pregnant, if you have an infection in the area, or if you cannot name the pocket you want smaller. Skip it if the chat will not say the ingredient. A clinic that only sends a before-and-after tile is not giving you a plan.

Quick FAQ

Is a fat dissolving injection a non-surgical facelift? No. It is a shot aimed at a pocket of fat. It does not lift a cheek, shorten a neck muscle, or change bone. If the chat calls it a lift, ask which structure they think they are moving.

How do I tell fat from loose skin under the chin? Pinch. A soft pad that lifts is fat. A fold that appears when you look down, with little to pinch, is skin. Bands that show when you grimace are muscle. Those three do not share a treatment.

Is jaw Botox the same appointment? No. Jaw toxin rests the masseter, the chewing muscle. A dissolving shot is for fat. Clench. If the side of the jaw rises like a fist, read the jaw Botox piece before you buy cc. Bone is a third problem, and a surgery.

What is actually in a Korean contour injection? It depends on the clinic. Some use deoxycholic acid. Some use phosphatidylcholine mixes. Some use house blends sold by the cc. The menu name does not tell you which. The quote should.

Are Lemon Bottle and similar brands the same as Kybella? No. Kybella and Belkyra are deoxycholic acid products with a published trial history for under-chin fat. Several imported contour brands have thinner evidence, and health agencies outside Korea have issued warnings. Cheap is not the same drug.

How much does a face session cost in Seoul? Clinic guides in 2026 often put a face session around 150,000–400,000 won, with small double-chin shots near 200,000–500,000 won. That is a guide range, not a Peep quote. Volume and drug move the number.

How much is a body session? Often about 250,000–800,000 won a sitting, more when the area needs several vials. A course of three or four sittings is the real budget. One tile is the advertisement.

How many sessions do people book? Commonly two to four, spaced weeks apart. A single sitting can be enough for a very small pad. It is not a rule. Anyone who promises a count from a Kakao photo is guessing.

Does it work in one day? The injection takes minutes. The outline does not. Swelling comes first. Visible change, when it happens, is usually talked about over several weeks, after the body clears the injured fat.

How long does the swelling last? For deoxycholic acid under the chin, clinic notes often say one to three weeks of obvious swell. Mixes sold as gentler can be shorter, and can also do less. Plan the photo after the swell, not during it.

Can I fly the next day? Most people can sit on a plane. The issue is looking swollen in a place you cannot cover, and having a question on day three with no clinic in the city. Do not book the shot the morning of a long-haul flight if you have an event at home.

Is this a reason to fly to Seoul? On its own, usually no. The flight can cost more than the course. It makes more sense beside a trip you are already taking, with the understanding that the result is unfinished when you land.

Can I drink or work out after? Skip alcohol, sauna, and a hard workout for about a day, longer if the clinic card says so. Do not massage the area unless they told you to. A walk is fine. Heat on a fresh chin is a bad pair.

Who should skip it? Pregnant patients, anyone with an infection or a skin disease in the area, and anyone whose fullness is skin or muscle. Also skip it if you need a fixed look for an event inside a month. The swell is part of the treatment.

Can it leave a dent or a lump? It can. Uneven fat loss and a firm spot are known complaints, not a Seoul specialty. A careful map of the pocket lowers the chance. It does not erase it. There is no switch that puts the fat back the same week.

Will the skin tighten after the fat goes? Sometimes the skin settles. Sometimes it looks looser, because the pad was what held it out. A shot is not a tightening device. If loose skin is the main complaint, say that in the consult.

Is it safe to stack with laser the same day? Often no. A swollen, injected area and a heat device are a poor pair. Ask the doctor who can see the skin. Stacking is how a simple morning becomes a week you did not plan.

Does Korean insurance pay for this? No. It is cosmetic. Travel insurance usually skips it too. Budget the course as cash you can lose if you change your mind after session one.

Can I still get the 10% VAT refund? Do not count on it. Many 2026 clinic guides say the cosmetic VAT refund for foreign patients ended on 1 January 2026. Older pages still advertise an airport claim. Ask the clinic whether the posted won price is the price you pay.

What is a bait price on this menu? A very low cc price that gets you in the chair, after which the plan needs more vials, a "necessary" drug upgrade, and a fee that was not on the tile. The defense is dull. Ingredient, cc, session count, and VAT, in writing, before any deposit.

What should I send before I book? Photos at rest, looking down, and grimacing, in daylight, no filter. Say whether you can pinch a pad. Say if you have had toxin, filler, or a dissolving shot there before. A clinic that quotes a course from one smiling selfie is skipping the only test that matters.

Medical note

This article is for general education and is not medical advice. Prices are clinic-guide ranges gathered in 2026, not a Peep quote and not a promise of outcome. Product names are used to describe categories, not as endorsements. Fat-dissolving injections can swell, bruise, and injure nearby tissue. If you are pregnant, on blood thinners, or have a neck or skin condition, speak to a qualified clinician before you book.
