Heavy Lids Are Not Always Skin

The heavy lid that makes you look tired is not always a lid.

People book upper blepharoplasty in Seoul because the skin on the lid folds. Sometimes that is true. Sometimes the brow has dropped, and the lid is only where the brow left it. Cut the lid, and you can open the eye while the brow stays low, or take so much skin that the brow falls further. Staff hear the same regret: I fixed the fold and the eye still looks heavy. The fold was never the whole weight.

If you remember one test, remember this. Lift the brow with a finger to where it sat in an old photo. If the lid suddenly looks fine, you are talking about the brow. If the fold is still there, you are talking about skin.

The brow test is a finger on the brow, not a lid photo.

Two operations, one tired photo

Upper blepharoplasty takes skin, and sometimes a strip of muscle, from the lid. The crease can be set or cleaned. It is the operation when extra skin is sitting on the lashes. It does not raise a brow that has slid. In someone whose brow is already low, taking lid skin can make the brow look lower still.

A sub-brow lift works above the lid, just under the brow hair. It lifts the thick skin that hoods the outer lid without redesigning the crease. It is the operation when the weight is the brow-lid junction, and you want the crease you already have. It is not a full brow lift. It will not park a very low brow back at its old height by itself.

The photo that starts the search cannot tell these apart. A finger at the brow can.

Do the finger test with the forehead relaxed. Some people lift their brows all day to see past a low lid, so the brow looks higher than where it rests. If your forehead aches by evening, or you raise your brows to read, tell the surgeon. That can point to the lid muscle, which is neither a skin trim nor a sub-brow lift. (ref. 4)

What people from abroad get wrong

A double eyelid and an upper blepharoplasty share a neighborhood and not a job. One builds a crease. One removes skin that has buried a crease, or buried the lashes. Booking a crease surgery for a hooded lid, or a skin trim for a lid that never had a low fold, is the wrong appointment at a fair price.

Men hit this more than the ads show. A heavy outer lid in a man is often brow position. A crease-first plan can look like makeup he did not ask for.

The quote, again, is the method

Clinic guides in 2026 put upper blepharoplasty in Seoul roughly around 1,500,000 to 3,500,000 won for a straightforward skin trim, higher when the crease is rebuilt or fat is in the plan. A sub-brow lift is often talked about in a similar band, sometimes 2,000,000 to 4,000,000 won, because the incision and the lift are doing different work. These are not Peep quotes. A price that says "upper eye" and does not name the cut is the same trap as an eye-bag quote with no incision.

The stay is shorter than a facelift and longer than a toxin visit. Bruising reads as a black eye in photos. A week before a long flight is a common desk rule. The shape you judge is closer to a month.

VAT is settled. Korea's 10 percent refund for foreign visitors' cosmetic procedures covered treatment received by 31 December 2025, and it was not extended. (ref. 6, 7) Ask whether the won figure already includes it.

Quick FAQ

How do I tell lid skin from a low brow? Lift the brow to an old photo height. If the heaviness leaves, the brow is in the plan. If the fold remains, the lid skin is.

Is a sub-brow lift a brow lift? No. It lifts skin just under the brow. It does not reposition the whole brow the way a formal brow lift does.

Will upper blepharoplasty raise my brows? No. It can make a low brow look lower if lid skin was the only support you had left. That is the mismatch people notice after.

Can I keep my crease? A sub-brow plan is built for that. Upper blepharoplasty can clean a crease or reset one. Say which you want before the drawing starts.

Does this create a double eyelid? Only if that is the operation you booked. Skin removal and crease creation are different lines on a quote.

What does it cost? Clinic guides in 2026 often put a straightforward upper blepharoplasty around 1,500,000 to 3,500,000 won, and a sub-brow lift around 2,000,000 to 4,000,000. Method and crease work move it. Not a Peep quote.

How long is recovery? Presentable for many people in one to two weeks. Judging the eye at a month is fairer than judging it on day four.

When can I fly? A week is a common rule for an uncomplicated lid, and ASPS suggests seven to ten days after eyelid surgery. (ref. 5) Confirm it in writing. A next-day flight is how bruise photos happen at the gate.

Is the scar obvious? Lid scars sit in the crease. Sub-brow scars sit at the lower brow hair. Both are designed to hide. Neither is invisible on day three.

Can toxin lift this instead? A brow toxin can open a mild hood for a few months. It will not spend extra skin. It is a test, not a substitute, if the pinch of skin is the problem.

What if one eye is worse? Surgeons often do both. Treating the loud eye only can make the quiet eye the new complaint.

Is this the same as ptosis repair? No. Ptosis is a muscle that does not open the eye. Extra skin is a fold. They can exist together. The quote should say if the muscle is in the plan.

Who should not book a skin-only trim? Someone whose finger-lift test clears the lid. They may need the brow in the conversation first.

Can I wear contact lenses? Not in the first days. Ask for the day they are allowed. Glasses are the plan for the flight.

What should the quote name? Upper blepharoplasty or sub-brow, whether a crease is cut or kept, whether muscle or fat is touched, and the fee in won.

Will I look surprised? A surprised look is usually too much lift or too much skin taken. It is a planning error, not a feature of Korean lids.

Do men do this? Yes. The goal is usually a lighter outer lid, not a new crease. Say that out loud.

Can I combine it with a lower lid? Yes. The swelling is shared and the discount is often real. Decide before you land.

I am not East Asian. Do I need double eyelid surgery? Usually not a fold. Many lids already have a crease, and the complaint is skin sitting on it, a low brow, or a low lid. That is an upper blepharoplasty, a sub-brow lift, or ptosis repair. Ask the surgeon to name the operation for your lid, not the one on the menu.

What if I already have a crease I like? Start with the sub-brow conversation. Upper blepharoplasty can change a crease you wanted to keep.

Is revision common? It shows up when the brow was the weight and only the lid was cut, or when too much skin was taken. A second plan is a different quote.

This article is for general education and is not medical advice or a promise of outcome. Prices are compiled clinic-guide ranges, not a Peep quote. A qualified surgeon should examine brow position and lid skin before either operation is named.
